Feb, 2019:- Rotary District 3080 conferred the
Rotary Shreyas Award on former Chairman of Medical Council of India and former
Director PGIMER, Dr. K.K. Talwar here today.
On the concluding day of the two-days
District 3080 conference, the award was presented to Dr K K Talwar by the
former Governor of Uttrakhand, Dr. K.K. Paul, for his contribution to the
medical science.
A father-daughter duo, Ajeet and Diya
Bajaj was also conferred the Shreyas Award, who have conquered highest peaks
including Mt Everest, around the world and have made India proud for their
endurance and adventure.
The third awardee Dr Vandana Shiva, a
noted environmentalist, author of several books on eco system and engaged with
Chipko movement was also presented the award in absentia since she could not
make it due to her sister's indisposition.
Dr K.K. Paul congratulated the
awardees and commended Rotary for honouring excellence.
He said that Rotary could make a
difference in helping India its millenium goals in which it has lagged compared
to neighbouring countries, especially in the areas of maternal and infant
mortality.
He also suggested Rotary to celebrate
150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi worldwide since his message of peace
and tolerance have universal relevance.
Dr K.K. Talwar in his acceptance
address asked Rotary to also address the issue of drug abuse among youth.
The Rotary International President's
Representative at this District Conference, Haresh Ramchandani from Jamaica
said that it is time for Rotary to innovate to bring in more and more young
professionals and business people to take up the global challenges that require
to be addressed through more concerted efforts.
Former world president of Rotary International
Rajendra K. Saboo, and Ian Riseley from Australia also addressed the
participating Rotarians.
