May:- Students of M.Sc in Fashion Marketing & Management (FMM) as
well as Garment
manufacturing Technology (GMT) of Northern India Institute of Fashion
Technology, Mohali presented their final Degree Projects in the campus.
The jury evaluating the Degree
projects comprised of eminent personalities Anil Sharma,VP,HR,Nahar; Shashi
Kanwal,Consultant to Groz Beckert Asia Pvt. Ltd. And Ms. Sumita Sikka,HOD, FD
Dept.,SD College.
Master’s in Fashion Marketing and
Management has been designed to fulfill the requirements of the Retail Sector and
Garment Manufacturing Technology fulfills the need of garment manufacturing
industry.
The students work in conjunction with
the known names of the industry for a period of three months and find out areas
of concern thereby giving suggestions, implementing and helping the units to
resolve the problems being faced by the factory or management in order to
compete in the market.
Three months of research work is
scrutinized and monitored by the industry experts and faculty at NIIFT.
Evaluation after every month results in giving refined work which provides
practical solutions to industrial problems and also help in enhancing
productivity.
Research work, is a part of the
project, which provides a challenging platform to the students to extend and
demonstrate the analytical skills necessary for decision making.
This year a total of 12 research
projects from FMM department and 10 projects from GMT department
were presented. The research of students in FMM department focused
on different areas like Analysis of the consumer preferences with respect to
kids brand in relation to color, Understanding the consumer preference
towards premium women’s brand – a quantitative research at Rare Rabbit brand,
impact of buying behavior of customers for smart and organic fabrics, while in
GMT department students undertook research on areas as Inventory management
analysis through forecasting techniques etc.
NIIFT is under the administrative
control of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Punjab and is
functioning under the dynamic leadership and able guidance of the Hon’ble
Industries & Commerce Minister ,Government of Punjab, Sunder Sham Arora, Vini
Mahajan, Addl. Chief Secretary to Govt. of Punjab, Dept. of Industries and
Commerce & Chairperson,NIIFT and M S Brar, Director, Industries and
Commerce, Punjab & Director General, NIIFT.

Admissions to the Degree Programs are
based on clearing the entrance test which is scheduled for 2/6/2019. This year
the last date of submission of applications is 26/05/2019. The entrance test is
followed by the situation test/ interviews and counselling respectively.

Students of GMT and FMM worked with
the most reputed export and Retail houses like Shahi Exports, Kapsons,
Vero Moda, Rare Rabbit, Active clothing, Gini & Jony to name a few.

Brar, Director, NIIFT said that the presentations made by the
students gave a deep analysis of the market conditions and manufacturing
competitiveness and were of a very high order.
Inderjit
Singh, Registrar, NIIFT said that the projects presented by
the students are the need based industry projects. The M.Sc programs at NIIFT
are the support systems for garment industry wherein the students under the
direct supervision of industry and their faculty members are doing research
projects.

Director, Registrar and Eminent Jury Members. The Award categories for this
year were as follows-

The presentation ended with vote of
thanks by Kamaljit Singh Rana, HOD, GMT and Dr. Meeta Gawri ,HOD,FMM
department to the Jury, press and other members present on the occasion.
