The World Standards Day was celebrated by Bureau of
Indian Standards (BIS) , Northern Regional Office, Chandigarh,. The World
Standards Day is celebrated all over the world on 14th October.
On this occasion, a programme was organised by Bureau of Indian Standards under the theme ‘International Standards and the Fourth Industrial Revolution’. The theme is chosen
collectively by International Organization for Standardization (ISO),
International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) and International Telecommunication Union.
(ITU).
In his inaugural address, Kapil Setia, Chief Architect, Chandigarh
(U.T), said that the Fourth Industrial Revolution refers to the sheer
volume of technological advance that is disrupting all aspects of
civil society including government, health care, education,
employability, the urban experience and more. He further elaborated some of the
aspects of this revolution such as 3 D printing and artificial intelligence and
intelligent transportation. He commended the efforts made by BIS in formulation
of standards in line with national and international practices.

(BIS), in his address said that every year on 14th October,
World Standards Day is celebrated to pay tribute to the efforts of thousands of
experts world over who collaborate with International Organisation for
Standardization. (ISO).
The technical
seminar organised by BIS was chaired by Dr. H.K.Sardana,
Chief Scientist, CSIR-CSIO , Chandigarh. Dr. Sardana conducted the technical
session in which presentation were made by Prof. (Dr.) parveen Kalra, Head,
Centre of Excellence in Industrial & Product Design, PEC, Chandigarh and Dr. Naveen Aggarwal,
Associate Professor, UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The programme was
attended by industry, BIS licencees, Consumer Organization etc.
