Eminent Orthopedic Surgeon Dr H S Gill Nominated to World Task Force Group of AO Trauma

Ludhiana 01st October:- Adding another feather to India’s cap, Dr Harpreet Singh Gill Head of Orthopedics and Joint Replacement at SPS Hospital Ludhiana has been selected to the world task force group of AO Trauma International.
This is a new initiative of AO Foundation with a thrust on “Soft tissue injury management in fractures.” This group constitutes of 30 trauma surgeons from around the world, including USA, UK, European, Asian and African countries.
The first meeting of the group was held in Hamburg, Germany from 26th-28th September, 2018. Dr H S Gill is a former post-doctoral fellow of Johns Hopkins University USA, and has been the Chairperson/faculty at various national and international forums and conferences.
The AO Foundation is a medically guided, not-for-profit organization led by an international group of surgeons specialized in the treatment of trauma and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Founded in 1958 by 13 visionary surgeons, AO today fosters one of the most extensive networks of currently more than 20,000 surgeons, operating room personnel, and scientists in over 100 countries. AO foundation with headquarters at Davos, Switzerland is celebrating 60 years of its formation in 2018.  It is composed of surgeons, researchers and health care professionals from all continents providing educational, state-of-the-art research and education empowering the next generation of surgeons. The Foundation’s mission is promoting excellence in patient care and outcomes in trauma and musculoskeletal disorders.
Dr Harpreet Singh Gill said that it was observed that while treating fractures of bones, the soft tissue and skin coverage of the fractured bones was being compromised and it took a longer time for the patient to recover from injuries. Hence to deal with these type of fracture injuries, a special task force has been setup. This task force will formulate guidelines for the trauma surgeons which includes Orthopedic surgeons, maxillofacial, spine and plastic surgeons. Regular courses would be held in all continents to upgrade the knowledge of the surgeons on this issue.
