Mar, 2019:- Sameer Gupta and Nikhil Sawhney have
been elected as the Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively of CII Northern
Region for the year 2019-20.
The new incumbents were elected during
the first meeting of the newly elected Regional Council members held in
Chandigarh, today. Sameer Gupta will head the CII Northern Region which
comprises Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar
Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Union Territory Chandigarh.
Elaborating on the priorities for the
2019-20, Sameer Gupta said that our initiatives for the year would primarily
focus on enhancing industry competitiveness, fostering ground for favorable
industry policies, skill development and inclusivity, adoption of contemporary
technology and innovations and working towards provisioning opportunities for
industrial growth & development.
Sameer
Gupta, is the Chairman and Managing Director of Jakson Group which is one of the Country’s
leading diversified power companies. The group is today a business conglomerate
with three business verticals–Generating Set Business, Solar Business and EPC
Business. Jakson Group also entered the Hospitality business in the year 2012. Sameer
Gupta has been associated with the Confederation at Northern Region in various
capacities. He has had Chaired the CII Uttar Pradesh State Council and also
chaired the Indian Green Building Council, Uttar Pradesh Chapter as well as
Regional Committee on Family Business Network for CII Northern Region.
Nikhil
Sawhney, is the Vice Chairman & Managing
Director of Triveni Turbines Ltd and
a Director with Triveni Engineering and Industries Limited and GE Triveni
Limited. The Companies occupy leadership positions in their respective
businesses of sugar manufacturing and engineered-to-order mechanical equipment
spanning 14 manufacturing locations in India.
Nikhil Sawhney follows a principle of
responsible corporate citizenry and has initiated several community
initiatives, including rural community-based self-help programs as well as the
Sustainable Sugarcane Initiative covering 250,000 of Triveni’s sugarcane
farmers. He has helped found the CII-Triveni Water Institute and is an active
trustee of the Tirath Ram Shah Charitable Hospital and the Emmanuel College
India Trust, as well as a Fellow of the Aspen Institute of India and the Aspen
Global Leadership Network. He is the Co-Chair of CII National Committee on
Capital Goods and Engineering and was also a member of CII Manufacturing
Council for the year 2015-16.
