Chandigarh 05th October:- General Secretary of The Maritime Union of
India, Amar Singh Thakur has been honoured with the 'India Link
Indian of the Year' award. Britain-based Billionaire Lord Swaraj Paul
honoured Amar Singh Thakur in London with the 'India Link Indian of the Year'
award. Amar Singh Thakur is basically a resident of Chandigarh. A veteran
seafarer and one of the most respected maritime stalwarts of India Amar Singh
Thakur is General Secretary of prestigious India’s oldest union of merchant
navy officers, The Maritime Union of India (MUI). The MUI is also affiliated to
London International Transport Labour Association. Amar Singh Thakur is a
famous personality in the Sikh community and a strong supporter of women's
empowerment. Amar Singh Thakur is actively associated with various religious
institutions and social service organizations in India.

thankful to Indian seafarers for selecting him to promote the agenda of The
Maritime Union of India. And, he is delighted to receive this award on behalf
of Indian seafarers in Britain where vibrant British-Sikh community has always
played an important role in strengthening Indo-UK trade relationship.
