Chandigarh 05th October:- The 28th Annual
Conference of Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology being organized
by Division of Surgical Gastroenterology, Department of General Surgery,
PGIMER, Chandigarh was inaugurated by Honorable Governor of Himachal Pradesh
Acharya Dev Vrat. The Hon’ble Governor highlighted the importance of gastrointestinal
tract for both health and diseases. He also welcomed the use of patient
friendly minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgeries but also
stressed the role of proper training.
On the
first day of the conference, international and national experts enlightened the
audience with latest developments on diseases of esophagus, gall bladder,
pancreas and obesity surgery. The conference is being attended by more than 600
delegates from all over the country. Clinics for post graduate students was
mentored by eminent teachers to help the budding surgeons in learning the art
of surgery.
Dr
Jason Hall from USA, enlightened the delegates about the surgical management of
colonic diverticulitis and Dr Niraj Gusani from USA, discussed the recent
developments in the management of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. Dr David Jayne from UK, delivered the
Chennai Oration and discussed about the latest trials in colorectal surgery and
challenges involved in the management. Dr KK Madhavan from Singapore, delivered
a keynote lecture on journey of surgery from cholecystectomy to liver
transplantation in last 30 years.
The
panel discussion by national and international panelist discussed the way
forward in unresolved issues in acute pancreatitis.
In
evening there were sessions on special mention posters and free paper sessions
to promote research and evidenced based treatments in the field of
gastrointestinal surgery.
