October:- Punjab cardio vascular surgeon, Dr
Harinder Singh Bedi delivered a guest lecture on latest advances in minimally
invasive surgery at 26th Annual Conference of the prestigious
Vascular Society of India (VSI) in Hyderabad on Saturday.
In his lecture he said that
vascular surgery is progressing at an astounding pace. The world is moving
beyond lasers, the current commonest method of therapy to even
better non thermal techniques for varicose veins.
Dr H S Bedi who is Director-Cardio
Vascular Endovascular & Thoracic Sciences at Ivy Hospital, Mohali explained
that we have moved beyond from open surgical technique for treating varicose
veins (dilated abnormal leg veins) to minimally invasive laser techniques. However
laser produces high heat and causes pain and needs some anesthesia.
Dr H S Bedi said that now newer
techniques which use sophisticated biocompatible glue or a device called
Flebogrif are being used, he said. These produce no heat and cause no pain
and return to work is on the very next day of the procedure with mid
-term results are excellent.
