Chandigarh 06th December:- The 6th edition of Tata Steel’s annual business challenge for
students ‘Steel-a-thon’ saw a record number of participants with teams from
MICA and FMS Delhi emerging as the winner and first runner-up, respectively.
The second runner-up position was held jointly by IIM Shillong and IIM Raipur.
Steel-a-thon 2019
witnessed a record participation with more than 1400 teams comprising 4200+
students from 22 premier B-Schools across the country submitting their entries.
In the grand finale in Kolkata, a total of 15 teams competed. In the 2018
edition of Steel-a-thon, students from 19 business schools had participated.
Steel-a-thon is Tata
Steel’s Annual Business Challenge for premier B-Schools of India where students
submit their innovative solutions on real life business cases. This year, the
competition witnessed the highest-ever number of responses with the
participants presenting solutions to case studies from domains including
Marketing & Sales, Corporate & Digital Strategy, CSR, HRM and Supply
Chain.
The teams presented
business case solutions to a jury comprising senior management of Tata Steel
led by Peeyush Gupta, Vice President, Steel (Marketing & Sales), Suresh
Dutt Tripathi, Vice President, HRM, and Ms. Atrayee S Sanyal, Chief Diversity
officer, Chief Group HR and Chief HRM (Steel).
The champion team won a
cash prize of Rs 2,50,000, winners’ trophy and a certificate. The first and
second runners-up were awarded cash prizes of Rs 1,50,000 and Rs 1,00,000,
respectively, along with trophy and certificates. These teams along with the campus
round winners also received PPI offers.
Congratulating the winners and all
the participants, Peeyush Gupta,
Vice President, Steel (Marketing & Sales), Tata Steel, appealed to
the bright young minds to be curious and make the right choices about their
careers. He said that curiosity is an
important element in today’s business. We must know how things happen in
companies, how revenue gets generated, what can you as a manager do to serve a
company, serve its customers, how does the value chain work and, finally, deliver
something to the customer.
The participants of
Steel-a-thon benefit from the mentorship provided by the senior management of
Tata Steel which exemplifies the focus on quality and attention to details. The
platform intends to groom the budding leaders for real-life business challenges
through application of their classroom knowledge on the practical front.
Since the first edition
of Steel-a-thon held in 2014, a total of around 40 students have joined the
Tata Steel family as employees. The 2019 edition of Steel-a-thon is also a
significant milestone in the Company’s steady march towards being an employer
of choice and creating a sustainable future for all its stakeholders.
The overarching theme for
Steel-a-thon 2019 was about enabling future readiness, redefining possibilities
and creating a platform that seeks to make role models, future leaders and
makers of tomorrow by application of passion and business acumen.
