April, 2019:- Connect Broadband is rolling out a comprehensive
plan to connect over 2 lakh households in Punjab and Chandigarh with
fiber-optics in the next two months.
The future ready technology, Fibre to
the Home (FTTH), offers delivery of communicational signal over optical fiber
replacing existing copper wires and coaxial cables with clear advantage of
higher bandwidth to customers which enables higher speed for internet, video,
and voice services.
Connect has already delivered optical
fibre connectivity to homes and businesses in the state, the next phase of 2
lakh households is now being offered through an attractive franchise model
share offering to the entrepreneur.
India has only 0.5% penetration of
optical fibre in the country with Singapore at 95%, South Korea with 93% and
Hongkong at 71%,
When the entertainment at home is
being offered on the net through various digital channels like Prime Video,
Netflix and Youtube, DSL or cable modems are unable to cope up with the speed
required to access this entertainment without buffering.
Normal data modems deliver up to
five megabits per second on the download (and are generally slower when
uploading) and current fiber optic technology can provide two-way transmission
speeds of up to 100 megabits per second.
