Chandigarh Feb. 17,
2021:- As many as 50 motor mechanics participated
in a de-addiction awareness rally at New Auto Motor Market, Sector 48 here on
Wednesday.
The rally was organized by New Auto
Motor Market Association with de-addiction and psychiatry dedicated
center, Faith Hospital, Chandigarh under
the hospital’s de-addiction campaign ‘Nasha Mukt
Chandigarh and Nasha Mukt Bharat’.
Carrying posters like ‘don’t hug
drugs, ‘Say no to tobacco and liquor’, ‘don’t allow drugs to drag you down’,
motor mechanics led by Association office bearers moved through the whole market
and spread awareness on de-addiction. The pamphlets on drugs ii-effects were
also distributed among mechanics.
During the occasion, Dr Ojasvi
Batra, psychiatrist at Faith hospital also addressed a health talk on the
medical model of addiction.
He said that, it has seen that
those involved in heavy physical hard work are generally fall victim to
addiction. This could be due to getting relaxed after work or following peers
and colleagues, he said.
The occasional use of liquor or
drugs later turned into a habit and one finds it hard to live without these, he
asserted.
Addiction is a disease and not a
character flaw as we all know. Like all other diseases, addiction can also be
managed and treated with medicines and counselling. With proper medication and
counselling one can get rid of addiction, Dr Batra maintained.
Meanwhile during the occasion, Dr.
Damanjit Kaur, senior psychiatrist Dr Amit Bansal head of Faith,
Association’s Chairman -Kuldeep Singh Bhatt , President -Harbhajan Singh, Vice
President -Harpal Singh and Senior Vice President-Sukhpal Singh were also
present.
A camp was also organized for motor
mechanics where around 150 mechanics were given free counselling and
consultations on de-addiction.
